Ever since I posted the New Book, Niglíču…She Comes Out Alive…A Story of Wounded Knee, which I co-authored with Oscar, I have been keeping track of the views each of my posts have received. The number of views come in cycles it seems and I like to think that at least somewhere, some people are talking about these posts, even if they are not buying the book. On average the views range between 10 -100 each day.
When Oscar died a year ago today, I posted his passing and it was comforting to see his "obituary" viewed by so many. I felt he deserved the recognition for all he did to promote this language so many here were hoping to revive.
However the number of views have reached ridiculous numbers and that is too bad because it cheapens the posting and renders it meaningless. Surely BOTS are to blame. It is frequently recorded that the number of these BOTS are noted on the bottom of this page along with members and quests online.
I am asking whoever is responsible for these BOTS to stop. A large number of views does not give the BOT originator any status here. They serve no good purpose whatsoever.
Let me show some evidence. One of my posts about Oscar's passing was at 32,049 views on 3/30/25. On 4/3/25 it was at 45,941. Really? Almost 14,000 views???? The next day: 2,000 more views in 12 hours??? Impossible numbers!!!
Another posting, not mine, has received 139,737 views since March 1.
See what I mean?
