Mitákuyepi,
A short while ago I found a really interesting interview with Alex FireThunder called A Lakota language journey. Practical tips for bringing language into the home. It was with the indigenous language institute.
Sadly some really good Lakota language speakers have passed away in the last few years. I know Alex and his wife are very much committed to bringing up their children to speak the language but I didn't know they even put this commitment to the language in their wedding vows!. Alex can speak Lakota to a high level but I guess I'm not the only one who thinks he and some others know it all. Can a second language learner ever? Well, in this interview he shares of how he forget a word and one of his little sons had to help him out. He also told of how for years he said a sentence wrong until Ben Black Bear corrected him. He is willing to keep learning with determination and commitment.
So I hope Alex's interview inspires you to speak more Lakota.
I'd love him to do an interview next on bringing Lakota out of the home and schools and into the community.
